Beleniuk began wrestling in the year 2000 at 9 years of age. In 2010 he won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships, and silver medal in a next year. 

In 2012, he won the bronze medal at European Championship. In 2013, he won the bronze at the Summer Universiade. In 2014, he won a gold medal at the 2014 European Wrestling Championship, and bronze at the World Championship. In 2015, he won the silver medal at the European Games. 

On 10 September 2015, after winning against then the ruling World Champion and then Champion of Asia, the Uzbek Rustan Assakalov scoring 6:0, Beleniuk won gold at the 2015 World Wrestling Championship in under-85 kg weight category, and named the best athlete of the year by National Olympic Committee.

In 2016, he won the gold medal at the 2016 European Wrestling Championship and the silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. Also in 2016 Beleniuk was named the wrestler of the year by International Wrestling Federation.
